Practical application

In case of a detached house, 4-6 m2 collector surface is recommended along with a 300-litre capacity storage container equipped with 2 pieces inside heat-exchangers. If back-up heating is aimed as well, you have to take it into account when planning the system. Back-up heating function can be used for pool heating purpose in summer. Pool heating is the most efficient operation mode of solar collectors. Daily 4kWh heat energy can rise the temperature of 1 m3 water with 3-4 oC. Of course, designing of floor- or pool heating requires a thorough calculation. There is a basic principle to be applied; 1 m2 collector surface is for 5m2 floor heating and half ‘water surface’ size collector is needed for pool heating.

In case of row houses, plants and hotels, domestic water heating application is especially an effective and saving solution. Specific prime cost of a big system is relatively low and its annual efficiency rate is high due to consistent water consumption. If its construction and installation are appropriate, a big system can achieve even a 50% higher efficiency than a system applied on a detached house.

How much of the winter sunshine can be utilised?

In case of floor and wall heating, which systems require relatively low temperature water, 1m2 solar surface can provide the back-up heating of 5m2-size living space. From heating aspect, 100% of required heat is covered by collectors during spring - autumn, however, this rate is 30% winter time. If there is a chilly but unclouded weather, collectors – mainly heat-pipe ones - can produce significant energy. Of course, gloomy, cloudy weather can not be compensated. If the weather is not sunny, collectors are not in fault.
